WELCOME to Candles By Victoria monthly newsletter! We are right smack dab in the middle of the dog days of summer here in East Texas. Why do I live in Texas again? :)

It is hard to believe she was just seven years old when I started this business. I remember when she was a little girl, she would put her nose up to every new scent and either give me the thumbs up or thumbs down and today she still does the same thing. One day she might even be the head candle lady around here. :)

~ LAYERED BUTTERSCOTCH COCONUT CREAM CANDLE PIE ~
This months candle raffle is our Layered Butterscotch Coconut Cream Pie Candle. This candle is poured in a clear glass 32 oz. bowl, is double wicked for a perfect burn and a heavenly scent throw. This candle starts with a layer of crumbs scented in Butter Pecan and Caramelized Pralines, the next layer is our blend of creamy Cheesecake with whipped cream, the third layer is a mix of Butterscotch, Crème Brulee and Butter Cream Crunch, and finally I added a whipped layer of Coconut Cream Pie, then sprinkled the whole thing with hand carved Toasted Coconut shavings, and if all that wasn't enough I added Butterscotch Kisses as a final touch to this delectable candle! This candle is adorable and smells AMAZING, I loved the way this candle turned out and have decided to also add it to my regular line of candles as well as being this months raffle candle. Many times I get my inspiration for bakery type candles from actual dessert recipes. I'm not a cook, at all, but I LOVE to whip up bakery type candles. Here is the recipe that inspired this scrumptious candle.
LAYERED BUTTERSCOTCH COCONUT CREAM DESSERT
1 cup Flour
1 large Cool whip
1/2 cup Butter 3 cups Milk
3/4 cup Walnuts chopped
2 3 1/2 oz Butterscotch Instant Pudding
1 cup Confectioners Sugar
1 cup Coconut toasted
1 8 oz Cream cheese
Combine flour, butter, nuts - press in 9x13 pan. Bake 15 min at 350.
Combine sugar, 2 cups cool whip, and cream cheese spread on cooled first layer.
Mix milk with instant pudding, spread on second layer.
Spread remaining cool whip on third layer.
Sprinkle with toasted coconut.
Refrigerate several hours.
Can freeze.

DON'T FORGET, TRIM THAT WICK!

It is VERY important to keep your wicks trimmed at all times! The key to a perfect burning candle is not only in how it is made but how it is burned. Never allow your candles to burn for more then 3-4 hours at a time before extinguishing the candle, allowing it to cool, trimming the wick and then re-lighting it. The rule of thumb is to allow your candle to burn for one hour for every inch in diameter of the container. For example our 16 oz. Country Jars are 3 inches in diameter, so you should allow that candle to burn for no longer then 3 hours before extinguishing and trimming the wick. Properly maintaining your wick is a must and the key to a better burning, longer lasting candle. Remember to never burn your candles in any type of draft, such as ceiling fans, AC vents, open windows etc. Following these simple rules will extent the life of your candle and give you hours of enjoyment.
Did you know that a candle has a memory?
When burning a candle for the first time, it's suggested that you burn it one hour for each inch in diameter. This will allow the pool of wax to extend to the outside edges and will prevent your candle from forming a "canyon" in the center. Burning a candle this way will also set it's memory. Each time you burn the candle it will "remember" to burn to it's edge.
What is the best way to trim a wick?
As a bit of trivia, "Did you know that there is a difference between a candle snuffer and a candle extinguisher?" It is interesting to note that the charred wick-end was termed snuff. The scissor like instrument used to remove this char, or to trim the wick, was referred to as a snuffer. A candle extinguisher was a cone shaped cap at the end of a rod. Through the passage of time it has been a common error to think of a candle snuffer as an extinguisher. There are several ways to trim a wick. The most popular ways are with a pair of scissors or nail clippers. Or if you don't mind washing your hands (subsequent lightings), before re-lighting a solidified candle, simply reach into the jar and twist the wick. The wick will ordinarily break off at the precise height recommended. As a safety precaution, make sure that all wick trimmings and all other foreign materials are removed from the jar.
